An old video of gospel musician Empress Gifty being enstooled as a chief of the Igbo community in Ghana has resurfaced and gone viral on social media.

It will be recalled that in October 2022, Empress Gifty was honoured by the King of the Igbo community in Ghana, His Royal Majesty Eze AMB Chukwudi J. Ihenetu, and given the stool name Chief Ugonma Empress Gifty.

The video has resurfaced in light of recent reports that the leadership of the Igbo community in Ghana has acquired 50 acres of land in Ningo, in the Greater Accra Region, for the establishment of an “Igbo Village.”

In the trending video, Empress Gifty was seen dressed in regal traditional Igbo attire, adorned with numerous beads, symbolising her status as a queen mother.

She was also captured bowing to the chiefs and elders of the community as they showered her with praises.

The “Watch Me” hitmaker was further captured dancing joyfully to an Igbo song while attendees cheered her on.

Her coronation was attended by her husband, Hopeson Adorye, and popular Nigerian actor Jim Iyke, among others.

Meanwhile, the resurfaced video has sparked backlash from some social media users who criticised the musician for embracing what they described as a “foreign” culture.
