Paramedics have saved the life of a tourist who narrowly avoided drowning at a popular water park.

Emergency services were called to WhiteWater World, in the Gold Coast, after receiving reports of a ‘post-immersion incident’ around 2pm on Friday.

There they found the tourist, who has not been identified, in a life-threatening condition before being pulled out of the park’s Cave of Waves pool.

The patient, aged in their 30s, was initially assessed at the scene before being rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital for further testing.

Dreamworld, which owns WhiteWater World, thanked its lifeguards for helping to save the park guest.

‘Our highly trained lifeguards responded immediately, and Queensland Ambulance Service attended the scene promptly,’ the statement said.

‘The safety and wellbeing of our guests and team members is our highest priority, and we are assisting emergency services as required.’
