Libyan club El Ettihad Al Misraty have completed the signing of Ghanaian midfielder Richmond Lamptey.

The 28-year-old former Asante Kotoko captain arrived in Tripoli on Tuesday September 16, 2025, to complete the necessary formalities before signing a deal to join the North Africans.

He moves to Libya after a successful spell in Rwanda with giants APR FC, helping them qualify for the CAF Champions League.

“Zimbabwe defender Gerald Takwara and Ghana midfielder Richmond Lamptey arrived at Misurata International Airport from Istanbul Airport this evening, Tuesday, to complete the contracting procedures and officially join our first football team’s preparations for the new season,” wrote the club.

Lamptey has rich experience playing on the continent, having featured for WAFA, Inter Allies, Asante Kotoko and APR FC.

He is expected to play a huge role at El Ettihad Al Misraty in the new season.

Meanwhile, Lamptey penned a heartfelt message to fans of APR FC following his departure.

He posted: “To the amazing APR FC family, As my journey with this great club comes to an end, I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude, especially to you, the fans. From the very first day I joined APR FC, you welcomed me with open arms and made me feel at home.

“Your passion, your songs, your cheers, and the way you stood behind us in every match—whether we won, drew, or lost—gave me the strength and motivation to give my very best on the pitch.

“The atmosphere you created at the stadium, the endless encouragement, and the genuine love you showed me will remain with me forever. You are the heartbeat of this club, and being able to play in front of you has been one of the greatest honors of my career.

“To my teammates, thank you for the brotherhood and unity we shared on and off the field. To the management and the board, I am grateful for the trust and opportunity to represent this badge.

“But above all, my appreciation goes to the supporters—the true spirit of APR FC. You made this chapter in my career unforgettable, and I will always carry the memories of your love with me wherever I go. APR FC will forever have a special place in my heart. With love and gratitude.”
