Former Hearts of Oak captain Amankwah Mireku has urged head coach Abubakar Outtarra to drop key centre-back Kelvin Osei Asibey from the starting lineup.

While acknowledging Asibey’s talent, Mireku argued that the defender is too error-prone to continue featuring in critical matches.

He attributed the player’s errors to being overconfident suggesting that Asibey’s mistakes have cost Hearts of Oak valuable points this season.

“Osei Asibey wouldn’t make such errors if I were on the Hearts of Oak technical staff. Although he is an excellent player, all evidence points to the training grounds as the source of these mistakes.

The team is losing points because of his overconfidence with the ball, which has become a recurring issue in his game,” he told Akoma FM.

His comments come in response to Asibey’s costly mistake that led to Hearts of Oak’s 1-0 loss to rivals Asante Kotoko on Sunday, December 15, 2024.

Mireku pointed out that this was the third time Asibey’s errors have directly contributed to Hearts of Oak dropping points this season.

“This is the third time his errors have cost Hearts of Oak points. Just as coaches are sacked when their decisions negatively affect the team, players who consistently cost the team points should be benched,” he added.

Following the defeat, the Phobians have dropped to 7th place on the league table with 19 points.
