Brother Sammy has taken a firm stance against Ghanaian churches that impose strict dress codes. He averred that such rules discourage people from attending church and push away those who need spiritual guidance the most.

Speaking on Hitz FM, the Ghanaian gospel artiste questioned the long-held belief that Christians must appear overly modest or poorly dressed to prove their faith.

According to him, looking good and dressing well can actually inspire others to come to church.

“Just because you are a Christian doesn’t mean you should dress like a pauper. Dress fashionably. Christians are supposed to look fashionable to attract ‘worldly’ people to God. So when they see you dressing good, they will be like, ‘I can also dress like that and come to church,’” Brother Sammy stated.

He recounted an experience where a woman declined his invitation to church, explaining that she didn’t have the “right” clothes to wear. Sammy said that the incident showed how church culture sometimes creates unnecessary barriers.

He expressed disappointment that many people have left church communities after facing criticism for their appearance, such as having dreadlocks, tattoos, or unconventional clothing styles.

“Many people have left the church because they were discriminated against for their dressing, or because they had dreadlocks or because they had tattoos. But those are rather the people that should be in church,” he said.

Explaining his reason for dressing with flair, Brother Sammy said his fashion sense is part of his message about modern Christianity.

“That is why I have changed my life. No one in Ghana wears better suits than me. I dress this way to prove that Christianity can look good. It is to show that no matter how you look, Christ still loves you, so come to him,” the ‘Aduro Biaa Nkadem’ singer further stated.
