In what can only be described as a dramatic day filled with unexpected twists, the Accra High Court has ruled that the funeral of legendary highlife musician Daddy Lumba, scheduled for Saturday, December 13, 2025, will go ahead as planned, despite an earlier injunction that had temporarily halted the process.

The day started with loud celebration from the late musician’s maternal family, who had successfully secured an injunction to stop the funeral from taking place.

They had earlier rejoiced over the court’s decision to restrain the family head, Kofi Owusu, from organising the burial and prohibit Transitions Funeral Home from releasing the body.

For them, it was a major victory in the ongoing family dispute over who holds the right to lead and finance the funeral.

But in a shocking twist that no one saw coming, the Accra High Court later recalled all lawyers connected to the case and issued an entirely new directive.

According to the updated ruling following a review requested by the lawyers of the defendants, the court had initially ordered the applicants to deposit GH¢2 million with the court registry by 2 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2025, as security for potential costs associated with delaying the funeral.

The court explained that while it acknowledged the concerns raised in the injunction request, halting the funeral carried significant financial implications that could unfairly burden the respondents.

The applicants, members of the musician’s maternal family, were therefore asked to pay the amount by 2 pm as a condition to maintain the injunction.

However, they failed to meet the GH¢2 million requirement. And with that failure, the court declared that nothing legally bars the funeral from proceeding on December 13.

The ruling, issued shortly after the failed payment deadline, effectively gave the green light for the burial to take place as originally scheduled.

As it stands now, all roads lead to December 13 for the final farewell of one of Ghana’s greatest musical icons.
