Former GFA Communications Director, Ibrahim Saanie Daara

Former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Ibrahim Saanie Daara has advised the GFA to exercise caution when dealing with Elmina Sharks owner, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, amid controversy over fans’ attacks on a referee during a match between Elmina Sharks and Swedru All Black.

He stated that Dr. Nduom has invested heavily in Ghanaian football, including Elmina Sharks, the Nduom Sports Complex, and previously sponsoring the Division One League.

Given Dr. Nduom’s contributions, the former GFA Communication Director warned the football governing body to be tactful with the businessman after he was charged with misconduct.

Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, Daara explained why the GFA should not be too strict with Dr. Nduom over his alleged involvement in the referee attack.

“We need people like Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom to invest in our game. Regardless of what has happened, it shouldn’t always be about charging people. I’ve heard that he even went on the pitch to calm the fans, so let’s exercise patience in our decision-making.

“What if he gets angry and dissolves the team? He has his stadium, and the GFA should consider all these factors. Any decision he makes will affect the Division One League, and we should also remember that this is someone who has previously sponsored the Division One League. Maybe he is wrong, but sometimes, we need diplomacy in resolving such issues,” he said.

This comes after the GFA officially charged Dr. Nduom with misconduct for his alleged involvement in the chaos that unfolded during the Division One League match between Elmina Sharks and Swedru All Blacks at the Dr. Nduom Sports Complex on Sunday, February 16, 2025.

The GFA alleged that Dr. Nduom incited players, team officials, and fans to confront the referees.

As a result, Dr. Nduom faces serious charges for violating the Division One League Regulations and the GFA Disciplinary Code.

He has until Wednesday, February 19, 2025, to formally respond to the allegations.
