Ghanaian actor Bill Asamoah has disputed claims that actor Dr. Likee singlehandedly saved the industry from collapsing.
The actor made these stories while emphasising that the Kumawood movie industry has not collapsed, despite facing some challenges.
In an interview with Poleeno Multimedia on November 14, 2024, Bill Asamoah pointed out that such difficulties are not new to the industry.
“Dr. Likee is doing well, but he is not the only one working. He is collaborating with others. It’s not true that he saved the Kumawood industry. Mercy Asiedu and others were also shooting TV series and contributing to the industry alongside him,” he insisted
He further clarified that the industry was thriving even before Dr. Likee’s rise to fame, urging people not to forget the efforts of earlier actors and filmmakers.
“Let’s not allow people to think that they are the ones who brought Kumawood into existence. We were working even before they came into the system,” he added.
Bill Asamoah also called on Ghanaians to refrain from overpraising actors, as it can lead to unnecessary division in the movie industry.
“The Ghana Actors Guild is the only guild recognized in the 1992 constitution. The industry would not have collapsed, and it won’t collapse. Let’s not be too quick to overpraise, because when we do that, it makes others feel left out,” he said.
