Supporter’s of Democratic Republic of Congo vented their frustration in an angry manner by destroying property at Kinshasa’s Stade des Martyrs stadium following their heartbreaking loss to Senegal in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers on September 9, 2025.

Prior to the game, DR Congo who were leading Group B with 16 points were in a favorable position to secure qualification to the global showpiece as a win would have cemented their place on top of the table.

Hence, the 80,000-seater capacity stadium was filled to capacity, with the Leopards chasing a historic qualification to the World Cup.

In the first 33 minutes, the hosts took a two-goal lead, with Cédric Bakambu and Yoane Wissa registering their names on the scoresheet.

However, Senegal pulled one back in the 39th minute, courtesy of Papa Gueye’s goal.

In the second half, DR Congo could not hold onto the lead as Nicolas Jackson scored the equalizer, with Matar Sarr netting the winner in the 89th minute to break the Congolese fans’ hearts.

At full time, frustration in the stands boiled over. Fans ripped out plastic seats, hurling them onto the pitch in chaotic scenes that overwhelmed security personnel.

No injuries were immediately reported, but the damage to the facility was extensive and would require a huge investment to repair.
