Hence, the 80,000-seater capacity stadium was filled to capacity, with the Leopards chasing a historic qualification to the World Cup.

However, Senegal pulled one back in the 39th minute, courtesy of Papa Gueye’s goal.

In the second half, DR Congo could not hold onto the lead as Nicolas Jackson scored the equalizer, with Matar Sarr netting the winner in the 89th minute to break the Congolese fans’ hearts.

At full time, frustration in the stands boiled over. Fans ripped out plastic seats, hurling them onto the pitch in chaotic scenes that overwhelmed security personnel.

No injuries were immediately reported, but the damage to the facility was extensive and would require a huge investment to repair.
