The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has sparked reactions online after he urged his congregants against abortion, even in cases of unplanned pregnancies.

In a now-viral video, Nyamekye, while addressing his congregation, shared a personal experience of how he faced criticism from some of his fellow pastors for having many children.

“When I gave birth to my sixth child, I overheard you pastors gossiping about me. They were asking, ‘how can this man read the Bible with all these children?’

“Someone even told me that ‘when you have too many children like that, it even disturbs your ministry.’ But I am still standing here,“ he shared.

He dismissed concerns about large families hindering ministry or financial stability, declaring, “The God that can take care of one will take care of the tenth.”

Apostle Nyamekye, however, clarified that he wasn’t advocating for excessively large families, but that he was simply against abortion, calling it ‘an abominable act.’

“I’m not saying that go 20, go 30. But I want to challenge you. Don’t kill your baby once you fall pregnant. Don’t worry about it. Don’t do that which is an abominable act. So, you can save money to build a house? Can you compare a house to a human being?” he added.

He urged his congregants to practise safe sex but to refrain from abortions if they have an unwanted pregnancy.

“Stay safe. But if for any reason you fall pregnant, give birth cleanly,” he concluded.

The sermon has drawn mixed reactions, with some applauding his pro-life stance, while others pointed out the financial challenges of raising multiple children.
