Grammy award-winning singer Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, professionally known as Burna Boy, has issued a piece of advice to his colleagues.

Sharing on his Instagram story, he urged artistes to focus on real-world achievements instead of social media validation.

According to Burna Boy, social media validation would not fill up stadiums, emphasizing that online popularity doesn’t always translate to ticket sales.

His post read;

“Dear artists, Don’t let Twitter polls and ‘Naija social media fans’ deceive you. They won’t fill up any stadium for you in any part of the world.”

Burna Boy, who is known for his record-breaking stadium tours, highlights the importance of building a genuine fanbase beyond the internet.

He also added that;

“1000000 Nigerian streams = $300/$400
1000000 Uk streams = £3000/£4000
1000000 US streams = $3000/$4000
1000000 euro streams = €3000/€4000
Your song being number 1 on any streaming platform in Nigeria is not something to celebrate. Aim higher or do other businesses on the side. I type with love. #NoSignOfWeakness”

His advice has sparked thoughtful discussions among fans and artistes, with the majority flooding the comments with their thoughts.

Below are some of the comments;

“This is why WizKids songs is not that much for Nigerians consumption.”

He no lie though, Nigerians are struggling with their own daily survival. Doesn’t mean they won’t make your music popular for the paying audience shaa.

“Take it or leave it but he’s saying nothing but the truth.”

“So how does the likes of seyi vibes, shallipopi and the likes afford luxury cars and buy mansions”
