WBA interim bantamweight champion “Filipino Flash” Nonito Donaire (43-8, 28 KOs) showed a very good form in a customary public workout at Teiken Gym on Friday in Tokyo, Japan. The five-division champ Nonito displayed a speedy and snappy mitt work with a female trainer named Rachel Donaire, his wife. This reporter remembers a fact that the first British world flyweight champ Jimmy Wilde (132-4-1-8NC, 98 KOs; reign 1916 to 1923) served in training with his sparring partner Elizabeth Wilde, his better half.

The 43-year-young Nonito confidently said, “I’ve been training at Omega Gym in Cebu, Philippines, and it was a great training camp. I’ll beat WBA regular champ Seiya Tsutsumi for WBA unification since I’m superior in power, skills and experience.” He also mentioned a possibility of facing newly re-crowned WBC titlist Takuma Inoue for WBC-WBA unification in the future.”

Rachel Donaire will serve as chief second of Nonito on this coming Wednesday at Ryogoku Sumo Arena (Kokugikan). A female corner person isn’t so rare as we remember Ann Wolfe (24-1, 16 KOs) working the corner of James Kirkland in 1910’s.

The Tsutsumi-Donaire unification bout will be presented by Teiken Promotions.
