Dr Donkor has stated that ‘Doggy style’ during sex cannot cause or contribute to a hernia
Dr George Donkor, CEO of Noble Trust Herbal Clinic, has dismissed claims that the “doggy style” sexual position causes hernias, asserting that there is no scientific evidence to support such a theory
The clarification follows public comments made by Rev Ernest Ampaw, who alleged that the position increases the risk of hernia in men.
After the Reverend’s claims gained traction on social media, Dr Donkor addressed the issue during an interview on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM.
Dr Donkor explained that a hernia occurs when an organ or fatty tissue squeezes through a weak spot in the surrounding muscle or connective tissue.
Although this condition, commonly found in the abdomen or groin—can affect anyone, it is statistically more prevalent in men.
Regarding the specific risks of sexual positions, Dr Donkor noted, “Doggy style during sex cannot cause or contribute to a hernia.
“However, if an individual already has a hernia and engages in aggressive sexual activity, they may experience pain. It is not the source of a new hernia. While aggressive physical exertion can aggravate a pre-existing condition, there is no scientific proof that the position itself causes the ailment.”
Dr Donkor also addressed rumours suggesting that the same sexual position could lead to a stroke, labelling them as medically unfounded.
He emphasised that if a man is healthy and has no underlying medical conditions, there is no evidence to suggest that specific sexual positions pose such severe health risks.
