Minister-designate of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie Minister-designate of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie

Member of Parliament for Ketu-South and minister-designate of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has called for a review of the District Assemblies’ Acts.

During her vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, Abla Dzifa Gomashie emphasised that a review of the District Assemblies Act on tourism will benefit young talented individuals.

“The District Assemblies Acts should be reviewed and as a lawyer, I will need your help on that. The district assemblies have the opportunity to develop tourism specifically for their communities, I will be more than happy to work with them so that the concept of having centres of national culture across the country will be reviewed.

“I also think it is an area that has the potential of having low-hanging fruits for young people who are talented and creative to take advantage of. I will work with you to make that happen,” she said.

The District Assemblies Acts include the Assemblies Common Fund Act, 1993 (Act 455), the Local Government Act, 1993 (Act 462), and the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936).

Dzifa Gomashie appeared before the Parliamentary Appointments Committee today, Wednesday, January 22, 2025, for her vetting, which will determine her confirmation as the substantive minister.

This marks the committee’s fourth sitting, as they expedite the vetting process to enable President John Dramani Mahama to form his government.

Dzifa Gomashie was nominated for the position on January 16, 2025, in a statement signed by the Acting Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.

Having served as the Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts, and Culture under Mahama’s administration from 2013 to 2017, Gomashie is also a two-term Member of Parliament for Ketu South Constituency, where she has championed development and community empowerment initiatives.
