Legal practitioner and CPP leading member, Kwame Jantuah

Legal practitioner and CPP leading member, Kwame Jantuah has criticized the handling of disputed parliamentary results following the December 7th election.

The Electoral Commission (EC) declared certain parliamentary results, namely those from Tema Central, Dome Kwabenya, Obuasi East, and Okaikwei Central, among some others, as invalid, citing duress on their officials. The EC’s subsequent call for recollation in these constituencies has generated considerable public debate and tension.

In an interview on GHOne TV with Lily Mohammed on Tuesday, December 17th, 2024, Jantuah advocated for legal recourse. He suggested that the appropriate channel for resolving these disputes is through the courts.

Mr. Jantuah cited the 2012 and 2020 presidential election petitions as precedents for resolving electoral disputes through the judicial system. He advised political parties to follow this democratic process to settle the ongoing parliamentary result controversies.

“Disputed parliamentary results should be taken to court. The 2012 and 2020 presidential results were taken to court when there was disagreement. If the results were declared under duress, it should be taken to court to settle it,” he stated.
