As Kwahus we should be ashamed of ourselves for allowing chieftaincy politics to take us on the painful journey of disrespecting our avowed cultural heritage and age old traditions.
I particularly found it an utterly dismal experience that Kwahus could sit by and allow the disruption of their age old chieftaincy lineage by one parochial individual.
Over the months there have been a tug of war in Kwahu. There have been alleged attempts on the life Kwahuhene, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II. There has also been attempts to illegally prevent him from carrying out his legitimate duties as the overlord of Kwahu Traditional area.
All these are happening because the Kwahuhene has been a stumbling block in a political quest to grab lands which belong to individuals and the Kwahu Traditional authorities.
Videos have been circulated in the past with people of Kwahuman crying out for help as their lands and forests were being taken over forcibly.
Then again, during a so-called traditional council meeting held at the Abetifi Palace on Monday, 21st October, alleged council members from the Benkum, Nifa, Adonten, Kyidom, and Okwawu Gyaase divisions—unanimously agreed to illegally transfer traditional authority in the Kwahu area to the Abetifihene.
And as if that is not enough, on Wednesday, November 13 at Abetifi, a yet another so-called Kwahu Traditional Council meeting was held where ‘acting Kwahuhene’ title was conferred on the disgraced and destooled Kwahu Adontenhene Akyemfuor Asiedu Agyemang III.
This is so shameful, disrespectful and utterly abhorrent to our customs and traditions. At least, those of us in Kwahu knows that the Abrewatia of the Kwahu State destooled this imposter of Abetifihene.
We also know that this clandestine imposition of the imposter is being enabled by key figures in the ruling NPP government. This is the same chief who was striped naked and humiliated publicly for engaging in dubious and underhand dealings.
As a matter of fact, it is an open secret that the Abetifihene was publicly disgraced, humiliated and destooled just a few days ago. Indeed, social and traditional media was actually awash with pictures and videos of the public humiliation of Kwahu Adontenhene Akyemfuor Asiedu Agyemang III.
So, what in God’s name are these political actors seeking to gain by perpetuating this sort of primitivity and illegality against the Kwahu people?
Observers are worried as to why a destooled Abetifihene could convey a traditional council meeting and made claims to the effect that Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II is no longer known to the Kwahu people as a traditional ruler.
Isn’t it intriguing?
If anyone cares to know, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II is the undisputed overlord of the Kwahu State. There’s no other authority outside that of Daasebre and the likes of Abetifihene who is obviously under the influence ought to know better.
The glory of the Kwahus has obviously been covered by darkness by these actions. Kwahuman needs redemption and hopefully we shall be redeemed sooner rather than later.
