Paul Kwabena Yandoh is the Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the NPP

The Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Kwabena Yandoh, has expressed outrage over the bail conditions set by the court for the release of the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

Chairman Wontumi, who is being prosecuted by the state in two separate cases, is reportedly still in police custody after failing to meet the total sum of GH¢25 million bail set by the two courts hearing the cases.

In the first case, where Wontumi faces several criminal charges for allegedly engaging in illegal mining (galamsey) in the Tano Nimire Forest Reserve, the judge granted him a GH¢15 million bail with two sureties after he pleaded not guilty.

In the second case, where he faces additional charges for alleged galamsey activities in the same forest, the NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman was granted a GH¢10 million bail with two sureties.

Reacting to the development while speaking to the media at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters, where Wontumi is reportedly being held, Paul Yandoh described the bail conditions as excessive.

“How can one person face all of these troubles? Was Chairman Wontumi the person who killed Jesus Christ? Did even the Roman soldiers who killed Jesus get these conditions?” he fumed.

“It is not easy; he is also human. You can see from his face that he is going through a lot,” he added.
