The Diaspora Affairs Office of the Presidency has officially addressed a circulating report on social media alleging that visiting African American individuals were approached or targeted by police officers while in Ghana.

In a statement released on December 11, 2025, and signed by its director, Kofi Okyere Darko, the office said it is aware of the concerns such content could generate, particularly among members of the African diaspora who honour Ghana with their presence.

“We understand the concern such content may generate, especially for our brothers and sisters from the diaspora who honour Ghana with their presence. We wish to assure the public that Ghana takes such matters seriously and treats every report involving the safety of visitors with the utmost urgency,” the statement read.

The office also noted that the Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the Cyber Security Authority, has commenced a comprehensive investigation to “establish the facts and identify the individuals involved.”

The statement also stressed the government’s commitment to maintaining a secure environment, especially during the festive season, when thousands of visitors are expected.

“As we welcome thousands of visitors during this festive season, we remain steadfast in our commitment to maintaining a secure environment for all. Every traveller, whether returning home or visiting for the first time, deserves to feel protected, respected, and at ease.

“Ghana’s reputation as a peaceful, warm, and welcoming destination remains a priority,” the statement said.

The statement further added that authorities will continue to work with all relevant security and intelligence agencies to ensure the country remains a “trusted, joyful, and dignified home” for all who come to experience its beauty, culture, and heritage.
