Dr Bossman Asare says the EC is ready to support the Democracy Cup

The Deputy Chair of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Dr Bossman Asare, has called on Parliament to include the Commission in the curtain-raiser matches of the Democracy Cup competition.

He noted that the Commission has staff who are strong and skillful enough to showcase their football abilities in such events and therefore deserve the opportunity to compete.

Dr Asare assured Parliament that the Commission’s staff would show up in large numbers to support the games as a way of affirming democratic principles.

Speaking to the media during a trophy tour on August 30, 2025, the Deputy EC boss said the Commission is ready to participate in the 2026 edition of the Democracy Cup.

“So, Mr Clerk, on behalf of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, I want to inform the Speaker that we are in full support of what is being done. And come next Friday, we are going to organise ourselves and be there to support. We would wish that next time, when the fixtures are drawn, the Electoral Commission is included. We have able-bodied men and women, and many of us played football in our youthful years.

“We think that next year, when you are marking the 10th edition of the event, the EC should be featured prominently. We will prepare a team, and though some colleagues may be retiring, we will invite them to join us so we can compete strongly with other institutions in the country,” he said.
