Kumawood actor, Kwaku Manu

Kumawood actor, Kwaku Manu, has shared his opinion on how some people have abused democracy and the freedom of speech in the country.

In a video shared on social media on January 21, 2025, Kwaku Manu noted that democracy is not meant for Ghanaians.

“We have gotten to the point where leaders of the country should stand firm on certain issues because the jokes in the country are becoming too much. We have courts, police, and even the military in the country, yet someone will sit on national radio and say whatever he wants.

“Democracy isn’t helping Ghanaians. It isn’t helping Africans; in fact, it is not helping Black men. Because if it was, how can kids insult chiefs and nothing will be done to them?” he asked.

Kwaku Manu also called on media personality, Captain Smart, to tone down how he criticises prominent individuals in the country.

“Our leaders should advise Captain Smart… Democracy doesn’t mean you have the right to abuse others in the country. I think it’s time Captain Smart should tone down on how he criticises people; the insults,” he added.

Kwaku Manu’s comments comes in response to an old video of Captain Smart which has resurfaced on the internet.

In the video, the presenter went on a rant against AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) over what he described as the company’s denial of indigenes’ rights, with the support of the military.

Meanwhile, some netizens have attributed the video of the presenter to a recent massacre that ensued between some residents of Obuasi and the military, leading to the deaths of some nine reported persons.
