Yaw Odame Gyau emphasises the need for students to navigate AI in communication

The Dean of the Faculty of Public Relations, Advertising, and Marketing (FOPAM) at UniMAC, Yaw Odame Gyau, has emphasised the need for students to be equipped with the right skills, ethics, and mindset to navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the field of communication.

Speaking at a public lecture on “AI Disruption and Future Works” on June 26, 2025, he stressed that AI has moved from being a future concept to becoming a present reality, fundamentally transforming how we interact, learn, and work.

He referenced Klaus Schwab, founder of the World Economic Forum, who noted that a technological revolution is imminent, one that will transform our lives, work, and relationships.

The Dean underscored the responsibility of educators to integrate digital and AI literacy throughout the curriculum, while also urging students to use these tools with accountability and ethical awareness.

“As educators, we must embed digital and AI literacy across our curriculum,” he said.

He also reminded students of the university’s AI policy, which encourages the responsible use of AI tools.

Yaw Odame Gyau highlighted the importance of preparing students for an AI-driven future and emphasised the need for responsible innovation within the communication profession.
