Dave Portnoy has ripped into Megyn Kelly for taking a ‘cheap shot’ at Caitlin Clark over the WNBA‘s transgender drama.
Clark was involved in a testy exchange with a reporter on Sunday after being asked about the controversy surrounding her Indiana Fever teammate Sophie Cunningham, who recently caused a stir by saying that biological men should not be allowed to play women’s sports.
The Indiana superstar had no interest in sharing her own thoughts on the topic, instead shutting down two reporters who quizzed her about Cunningham’s stance and insisting the team’s focus is on basketball.
In light of her coy response, conservative political commentator Kelly took to X to brand Clark a ‘coward’ for refusing to speak out in support of Cunningham on the issue of trans athletes in women’s sports.
Yet that did not go down well with Portnoy, who ignited a shock feud with Kelly by labeling her an ‘absolute moron’ just two months after his latest appearance on her show.
‘Absolute moron/idiot to call Caitlin a coward for this answer,’ the Barstool Sports chief and Clark superfan replied to her. ‘1st of all you don’t even know how she feels on this issue and more importantly she doesn’t owe it to you or anybody else to be your political talking point. She just wants to play ball.

‘Total coward cheap shot to call her a coward for not being your puppet’.
‘Why don’t you sit this one out since you didn’t even have any idea today “how big a problem” this is,’ Kelly responded about the wider topic on trans athletes in women’s sports. ‘(Hint: UCLA Law estimates over 120k trans athletes at the HS level.)
‘Understand this however: if it were your daughter suffering brain damage from a boy posing as a girl, you wouldn’t care how many others there were. One is too many. But watch my show today bc I actually answered your Q civilly and respectfully, unlike your behavior here.’
Clark faced the media after Indiana’s loss to the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday, which was overshadowed by protestors clashing outside the arena and rival head coach Cheryl Reeve wearing a pro-trans shirt at the side of the court.
‘I think, for us, it’s not really a discussion we really have in our locker room,’ Clark said to a packed media room when grilled about Cunningham’s stance.
‘I think it’s for leagues and the governing bodies to work with their athletes to find solutions, but our focus is on basketball.
‘That’s what we talk about and how we can get wins, and, obviously, we didn’t do that tonight.’

Cunningham recently said that young girls ‘shouldn’t have to go against biological men’ when playing sports, and every Fever game since has seen both pro and anti-trans protests inside and outside the arena.
On Sunday, protestors on each side of the debate clashed outside the arena, while Lynx coach Reeve was seen in an animated discussion with Cunningham at the side of the court while wearing a ‘Trans Kids Belong’ shirt.
‘I think it’s great,’ Reeve said of the talk in her postgame media session. ‘I think both of us understand that we have platforms and we both talked about wanting to, more than anything, educate.
‘There are some things that we have in common, and maybe some things you differ on, just like any issues. I think it’s how you handle things. It was nice to be in person, for sure.’
