Mentors Chess Academy in collaboration with Imagination Africa last month hosted the maiden edition of the African Genius Chess Championship at the Legon City Mall in Accra, Ghana. The event brought together over one hundred young chess talents from more than 15 schools all over the country to showcase their strategic brilliance as well as compete for prestigious prizes. The tournament was divided into several age categories, namely Under-8, Under-10, Under-12, Under-14, Under-16, Under-18 and Under-20.
The highly anticipated Under-20 category saw 12-year-old chess sensation Dave Chief Quansah Acheampong add to his tall list of tournament victories as he went unbeaten after 4 intense rounds of play against opponents from Presec, University of Ghana, DPS International, ARIS, to claim the championship trophy.
The competition also witnessed outstanding performances from household names like Jedidiah Nana Osei Acheampong, Harry Sarkodee-Adoo and Jeshurun Obiri Yeboah Pryce-Tandoh win the Under-10, Under-12, and Under-14 categories respectively.
Winners across each category, including the top three finishers and the best girl in each group, were honoured with medals and gifts from tournament sponsors, celebrating their skill and dedication.
