Celebrated gospel musician Minister OJ has shared his thoughts on what he believes are widespread misconceptions surrounding dating and marriage in Ghana.
Speaking in an interview on Okay FM with Nana Romeo, the singer explained that many people misunderstand the true meaning of dating.
“When people mention dating, they see it as something strictly between a couple. However, the proper definition of dating is when you’re talking to multiple people, assessing them to find out if you are actually compatible with that person,” he explained.
Minister OJ noted that courtship should only come after this phase.
“That is where the couple becomes exclusive before marriage,” he added.
He also addressed common perceptions about Ghanaian marriage customs, stating that the traditional marriage, often referred to as an “engagement”, is actually the real wedding.
“The traditional marriage is our own wedding. That is where the two families come together and the couple is bonded. The white wedding is something we adopted from the white man,” he clarified.
