The former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, has said that the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe Abronye, is in high spirits ahead of his court appearance on Friday, September 12, 2025.

Speaking to GhanaWeb’s George Ayisi on September 11, 2025, Dame expressed his optimism and hope that the court would grant bail to Abronye, especially since the offense is a misdemeanor.

“He is in high spirits and in very good condition. Even though I advised him to try and eat some food, he is still in very good spirits and he is looking forward to continuing his proceedings tomorrow. We are very confident that bail will be granted in a matter like this, clearly a misdemeanor,” he said.

Dame also expressed surprise over the court’s decision not to grant bail to Abronye, referencing the offenses classified as misdemeanors under Article 29, Sections 207 and 208.

“All offences under Sections 207 and 208 of Article 29 are misdemeanors and so there is little justification as to why a trial court would even deny bail,” he continued.

He added, “We have seen it when people are actually attacked in elections, gravely assaulting other Ghanaian citizens and all, they are granted bail and they are put before court. When they plead guilty even before the court will deliver a sentence, the court itself grants bail and they come out with some slight fines.”

The former Attorney General asserted that he believes there is a deliberate attempt to subject some individuals to harsher treatments than others who, he claims, commit more grievous offenses, urging against such actions.

Here’s why Abronye could get a 4-year jail term

“Clearly, you see that all these processes amount to what I call a deliberate discriminatory application of the law and it is this uneven application of the law which must be deployed. We cannot leave the country where some citizens of the country are treated in a worse form than others,” he concluded.
