A 17-year-old has been shot in the leg following a reported shooting at a High School in Dallas.

Emergency services raced to the scene at Wilmer-Hutchins High on Tuesday afternoon.

One male victim was transported to the hospital in a stable condition, but no further details were given, WFAA reports.

First responders were called to the school at 1:06pm according to Dallas Fire-Rescue personnel.

By 1:45pm the active shooter threat had reportedly ended, but helicopter footage showed a heavy police presence around the school.

Students could be seen fleeing for their lives across the school’s field toward the Wilmer-Hutchins Eagle Stadium.

Parents and members of the public are being urged to avoid the campus pending the investigation.

One parent told NBC 5 that his daughter heard five shots inside the school and locked herself in a classroom.

‘I was there about 40 minutes before the shooting. I had a meeting with one of the teachers, and we just went to take a lunch. Then she called my son about the shots, and we just came right away. That’s all we know,’ said Oscar Lilli.

‘It’s very scary because your life can change in one second. It’s hard to hear about these kinds of problems, but there is nothing we can control.’

Around 894 students attend Wilmer-Hutchins High School. The incident comes a year after a shooting at the same school which also left one student injured.

The teen was left with a gunshot wound to the leg after the shooter managed to smuggle in a gun in due to a faulty metal detector.

The Dallas Independent Schools District put out a statement once the campus had been secured.

‘Families: Wilmer-Hutchins High School is secured,’ the message on Facebook read.

‘Reunification plans will be shared shortly. Please be prepared to arrive with your photo ID. We need everyone’s help to refrain from coming to campus.’

Counselors have been dispatched to the stadium for anyone seeking support.

This is a developing story, check back for updates.
