The one-week observation for Ghanaian highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, was observed on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the Black Star Square in Accra. The solemn ceremony drew a large crowd of dignitaries, political leaders, celebrities, and devoted fans.

Among the high-profile attendees were former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh. Also present were representatives of Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change, New Patriotic Party presidential hopeful Kennedy Agyapong, Dr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu, as well as a host of musicians, including Amakye Dede, Sarkodie, Kojo Antwi, Diana Asamoah, Pat Thomas, Kofi Nti, Ras Levi, Kwabena Kwabena, Kay Blez, Oheneba Kissi, K. Owusu, and comic actor Salinko.

As part of the event, several donations were made to support the bereaved family. Nana Akufo-Addo contributed GH₵100,000, recalling how Daddy Lumba once composed a campaign song for him. Other notable donations came from Kennedy Agyapong (GH₵10,000), Dr. Opoku Prempeh (GH₵5,000), Dr. Bawumia (GH₵50,000), Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change (GH₵5,000), and the Ghana Police Service (GH₵30,000).

The observation also featured musical performances, with industry greats like Amakye Dede taking to the stage in honour of the late star.

While the ceremony was well-attended and marked with tributes, the date for Daddy Lumba’s final funeral rites was not disclosed. The family had earlier indicated, however, that the funeral will take place in Kumasi, capital of the Ashanti Region.

Daddy Lumba, one of Ghana’s most celebrated musicians, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Bank Hospital in Accra. He was 60 years old.
