In a remarkable nod to Ghanaian Highlife music, legendary musician Daddy Lumba has received royal recognition as his 2008 hit song Mpempem Do Me has been included in King Charles III’s special playlist for Commonwealth Day.

The playlist, curated in collaboration with Apple Music, celebrates songs that bring the British monarch joy and, in his own words, make it “incredibly hard to sit still.”

The 17-track playlist, which features a diverse array of global music icons, places Daddy Lumba’s Mpempem Do Me at number seven.

The Ghanaian Highlife star shares the prestigious list with international legends such as Beyoncé, Diana Ross, Bob Marley, Grace Jones, and Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Davido.

This inclusion not only highlights the universal appeal of Daddy Lumba’s music but also underscores the growing global recognition of African musical talent.

Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, is one of Ghana’s most celebrated musicians, with a career spanning over three decades.

Known for his unique blend of Highlife and Hiplife, he has produced countless hits that have resonated with audiences across Africa and beyond. Mpempem Do Me, a fan favorite, continues to captivate listeners with its infectious rhythm and timeless appeal.
