The lawyers representing the family of the late Ghanaian highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, have responded firmly to claims and actions by his first wife, Mrs. Akosua Serwah Fosuh, and her family, who have reportedly filed an injunction to halt the musician’s funeral arrangements.

In a detailed response dated October 11, 2025, and signed by Fati Ali-Yallah (Esq.) of Baba Jamal & Associates, the solicitors for the Fosu Royal Family of Parkoso and Nsuta, the lawyers dismissed the claims made by Akosua Serwah Fosuh and her family.

The legal team described her actions as baseless and contrary to both Akan customary practices and the instructions left behind by the late musician himself.

According to the letter addressed to Kwadwo Addeah-Safo, Esq., the counsel for Mrs. Fosuh in Germany, the family stated that Akosua Serwah Fosuh deserted her husband about fifteen years ago, when he fell seriously ill, and had since lived apart from him.

The lawyers of the renowned musician’s family also revealed that in February 2018, Akosua Serwah wrote to Daddy Lumba threatening to initiate divorce proceedings, but the musician denied her allegations and called her bluff, noting that he had moved on with his life after she left him.

The family’s lawyers further pointed out that Mrs. Fosuh herself presented traditional drinks to Lumba’s family, signifying the dissolution of their marriage some years ago.

And in that regard under Akan customary law, they explained, the presentation and acceptance of such drinks officially end a marriage, meaning that Mrs. Fosuh had no standing as a wife at the time of Lumba’s passing.

They emphasized that, by tradition, the right to manage the body and funeral arrangements of a deceased person lies with the family, not a former spouse. “Your client has no right to determine how the Fosu Royal Family conducts the funeral of the late Daddy Lumba,” the lawyers stated unequivocally.

In a continuation of their response, the legal team also clarified that Priscilla Ofori, also known as Odo Broni, is recognized by the Fosu Royal Family as Daddy Lumba’s wife, having lived with him for over fifteen years and borne him six children.

The letter stressed that Odo Broni stood by the late musician through his difficult years, unlike his estranged wife, and that her status as his spouse is not in dispute within the family.

Regarding the late singer’s estate and properties, the lawyers indicated that all assets form part of his estate and that the family together with his children and their mothers will work together to ensure fair distribution. They advised all parties to stay away from the properties until the estate is legally settled.

Significantly, the family’s lawyers disclosed that they hold in custody written instructions from Daddy Lumba himself regarding how he wished his funeral and burial to be conducted, as well as the distribution of his estate.

This development comes in direct reaction to an earlier statement released by Mrs. Fosuh’s family, which expressed shock over funeral plans being made without their involvement and cited German marital laws to claim that her marriage to Daddy Lumba was still valid at the time of his death.
