Daddy Lumba’s family head, Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu, has denied allegations that he misused funds raised for the late musician’s funeral for his personal needs.

The accusations, which resurfaced online in a recent interview, claim that he used part of the money donated for Lumba’s funeral to pay for hotel accommodation in Accra, among others.

Speaking on this in an interview with Kontonkyi media, Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu has rejected such claims, insisting that he paid for his own lodging during his recent stay in Accra.

He explained that his decision to stay in a hotel was based on convenience, not because he lacked options.

“I don’t have a home in Accra. My brothers have houses, but they’re all quite far from the city, so I rent a hotel to stay in. There are plenty of houses, but the distance is what made me choose a hotel,” he said.

Lawyer William Kusi, who represents the late musician’s legal wife, Akosua Serwaa, accused the family head of misappropriating contributions made during the one-week observance ceremony held on August 31, 2025, at the Black Star Square in Accra.

According to the lawyer, information he got from close relatives of the late musician stated that a CALBank account created to collect donations was being used by Abusuapanin and some funeral committee members for personal expenses.

He alleged that more than GH₵28,000 had been spent on hotel bills and called on the funeral committee to provide a detailed account of how the funds were used.

However, Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu dismissed the accusations, noting that no funeral money was used for his personal benefit.

He also addressed questions about why he chose not to stay in one of Daddy Lumba’s Accra properties, explaining that he wanted to respect the privacy of the late musician’s widow, Odo Broni, and her children.

After Daddy Lumba’s death, a legal tussle has erupted between his legal wife, Akosua Serwaa, the family head, and the late singer’s partner, Odo Broni.
