Akosua Serwaa (L) has filed an injunction against and Odo Broni (R) and the Lumba family Akosua Serwaa (L) has filed an injunction against and Odo Broni (R) and the Lumba family

The family of Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, have appeared before a High Court in Kumasi today, Thursday, October 16, 2025 following a legal action initiated by his wife, Akosua Serwaa Fosu, over disputes surrounding his funeral arrangements and widowhood rites.

Videos making waves on social media showed extended family members of the late Lumba, including his elder sister, Ernestina Fosu, and Evangelist Papa Shee, arriving in the court.

The suit, filed on October 3, 2025, names Kofi Owusu Fosu, the head of Daddy Lumba’s external family, and Priscilla Ofori Atta, also known as ‘Odo Broni’, as defendants.

In her writ, Akosua Serwaa Fosu is seeking several declarations from the court, including formal recognition as the only surviving legal spouse of the late musician and the sole person entitled to perform widowhood rites at his funeral.

    Background

Daddy Lumba passed away on July 26, 2025, after a celebrated career that spanned over four decades.

His family has since announced that his final funeral rites will take place on December 6, 2025, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

However, in a recent press statement, his wife, Akosua Serwaa expressed shock and disappointment that she and her children, Calvin Kwadwo Fosu (31), Charlyn Fosu (24), and Ciara Fosu (20), were not consulted in deciding the funeral date or arrangements.

Daddy Lumba‘s children never wrote any letter, it’s fake – Nana Romeo

According to her, they only found out about the event through social media.

    Akosua Serwaa’s demands

In her statement of claim, Akosua Serwaa is asking the High Court to:

Declare her as the only surviving legal spouse of the late musician.

Affirm that she alone has the legal right to perform widowhood rites.

Restrict the family head, Kofi Owusu Fosu, from recognizing or dealing with Priscilla Ofori Atta (Odo Broni) as a spouse of the deceased.

Restrict Odo Broni from publicly presenting herself as the wife of the late Daddy Lumba.

    Marriage and family

Akosua Serwaa explained that she and Daddy Lumba were legally married under German law at the Civil Marriage Registry in Bornheim, Germany, and that their marriage remained valid and legally binding until the musician’s death.

She said they lived together in Germany for several years and had three children together. She insisted that there was no formal separation or divorce prior to his passing.

    Claims against the defendants

According to Akosua Serwaa, following her husband’s death, Priscilla Ofori Atta (Odo Broni) emerged, claiming to be married to Daddy Lumba and alleging to have had children with him.

She further alleged that the family head, Kofi Owusu Fosu, has endorsed Odo Broni’s claim and granted her permission to perform the widowhood rites, an action Akosua Serwaa describes as unlawful and disrespectful to her legally recognized status as wife.

The plaintiff also claims that funeral arrangements are being made without her knowledge or involvement, and that printed invitations for the event already bear Odo Broni’s contact information, suggesting she is being presented publicly as the widow.

Akosua Serwaa has argued that unless the court intervenes, she will be unjustly denied her rightful role as the legally recognized spouse of the late music icon.

    Court hearing

The High Court in Kumasi is expected to hear the case today, October 16, 2025, to determine whether Akosua Serwaa Fosu should be officially recognized as Daddy Lumba’s only lawful wife, a ruling that could significantly affect the organization of the final funeral rites scheduled for December.
