The funeral planning committee for the late Daddy Lumba, has revealed that the body of the late Highlife legend will be transported via road from Accra to Kumasi.
This comes after the final funeral date, scheduled for December 6, 2025, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, was officially announced to the public.
Speaking in an interview with DL FM and with other media outlets, Head of the planning committee, Collins Owusu Amankwah, said the original intention was to airlift the remains to Kumasi.
However, after discussions with the family and funeral committee, a decision was made to use the road route instead.
“But then, after a meeting with the family and the funeral planning committee, we decided to transport the body by road. The convoy would pass through major towns along the route, allowing people to come out and pay their last respects,” Amankwah stated.
Daddy Lumba’s burial date set for December 6
The road procession is meant to give more people, far beyond those in Kumasi, the opportunity to be part of the send-off and honour the departed.
“So residents in towns like Suhum, Konogo, Ejisu, Kumasi Akropong can witness the convoy passing by and pay their respects to him,” he said.
Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, passed away on July 26, 2025, at the Bank Hospital after a short illness. He was 60 years old.
His death has since prompted an outpouring of grief across the country and condolences from public figures, including current and former presidents.
In tribute, the Creative Arts Agency, in collaboration with the Fosu family, organised a national candlelight vigil at Independence Square on August 2, 2025, running from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The vigil coincided with simultaneous tributes in countries including Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, the Netherlands, and other parts of Ghana.
On August 30, 2025, Ghana observed a one-week memorial for the music legend at Independence Square.
In line with Akan tradition, the one-week observation of the late highlife legend brought together hundreds of fans, artistes, dignitaries, and family members from all walks of life to pay their last respects to the late musician.
Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, and former Assin Central Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong added a political touch to the solemn event.
The event was filled with performances of Daddy Lumba’s timeless hits, including ‘Aben Wo Ha’, ‘Sika Asem’, and ‘Theresa’.
