Presidential Adviser on Diaspora Affairs at the Presidency, Kofi Okyere Darko popularly referred to as KOD, has urged musicians and industry stakeholders not to create tribute songs for the late Highlife legend, Daddy Lumba.

In a Facebook post, KOD explained that paying tribute to the music legend through new songs would be extremely difficult and unnecessary.

According to him, Daddy Lumba had already told his story through his own music while he was alive.

“Creating a tribute song for Daddy Lumba won’t be easy and should not be encouraged…he already wrote his own while he was still with us. His music said it all long before we ever had to say goodbye,” KOD wrote.

Many people within the music space have suggested that the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) should lead efforts to produce tribute songs in his honour, a practice that has become common when music legends pass away.

However, KOD disagrees with this approach, particularly in the case of Daddy Lumba, who left behind a rich catalog of songs that have defined generations of Ghanaian music.

In response to KOD’s post, media personality Lexis Bill shared similar sentiments, warning against remixing any of Lumba’s classics.

“I agree. Makra Mo put an end to his journey and that’s enough. And we don’t need anybody remixing any of his iconic tracks. None of his songs should be sampled in our generation,” Lexis Bill commented.

Meanwhile, watch as Ghanaians hold candlelight vigil in honor of Highlife icon Daddy Lumba:
