Renowned Filmmaker and former Director for Creative Arts at the National Commission on Culture (NCC), Socrate Safo has revealed that the late highlife legend, Dada KD, felt let down by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) despite his significant contributions to its 2016 political campaign.

Speaking in an interview with GhanaWeb’s Isaac Dadzie following the musician’s funeral on September 20, 2025, Safo described Dada KD a deeply humble artiste who supported the party without expecting payment.

“He’s one person who was doing things, not expecting anything… Dada KD never charged for anything. He’s ready to mount the stage and move the crowd wherever we go,” Safo stated.

However, Safo clarified that the celebrated musician’s relationship with the NPP was not entirely smooth.

“I also know that Dada KD was not happy about the way the party handled him. He was not happy because, the expectation at least, whatever appreciation that must come to him, didn’t,” he disclosed.

While acknowledging that the NPP did not completely neglect the musician, Safo emphasized that the recognition fell short of Dada KD’s expectations.

“As a brother, I will not stand here today and say all was rosy. No. I didn’t say NPP didn’t take care of him. But not as expected,” he said.

In contrast, he concluded that Ghana as a nation had treated the artiste well, affirming that the respect and love he earned from the public were genuinely deserved.

“I think Ghana treated Dada KD well. They appreciated his works. They followed him. His good works. It was not something like an entitlement. He earned it. Yes, he earned the respect of the pioneers,” he said.
