Socrate Safo has disclosed that the late highlife musician Dada KD harboured disappointment toward the New Patriotic Party (NPP), despite throwing his weight behind the party during its 2016 campaign.

The veteran Ghanaian filmmaker described the singer as a selfless performer who never asked for financial reward in return for his efforts.

“He’s one person who was doing things, not expecting anything… Dada KD never charged for anything. He’s ready to mount the stage and move the crowd wherever we go,” Safo told GhanaWeb’s Isaac Dadzie in an interview.

Yet, Safo revealed that the bond between the musician and the party was not without its strains.

“I also know that Dada KD was not happy about the way the party handled him. He was not happy because, the expectation at least, whatever appreciation that must come to him, didn’t,” he said.

Although he stopped short of accusing the NPP of completely neglecting the artist, Safo maintained that the recognition offered fell short of what Dada KD anticipated.

“As a brother, I will not stand here today and say all was rosy. No. I didn’t say NPP didn’t take care of him. But not as expected,” he averred.

Safo also stressed that on a national level, Ghanaians acknowledged Dada KD’s legacy, with respect and admiration that he genuinely earned.

“I think Ghana treated Dada KD well. They appreciated his works. They followed him. His good works. It was not something like an entitlement. He earned it. Yes, he earned the respect of the pioneers,” Socrate Safo stated.
