The 2026 #RideWithTeamEurope cycling tour has successfully concluded in Accra, marking the end of an ambitious 800-kilometre journey from Tamale to the Netherlands Embassy.

The seven-day expedition, organized to commemorate 50 years of the European Union’s presence in Ghana, brought together six EU Ambassadors, officials, and cycling enthusiasts in a symbolic campaign promoting sustainability, unity, and healthy living.

Riders, including members of the Gladiators Cycling Club, traversed multiple regions, engaging communities and raising awareness on environmental responsibility. Along the route, participants planted trees and interacted with traditional and political leaders, reinforcing the tour’s sustainability message.

Speaking at the finish line, EU Ambassador to Ghana, Rune Skinnebach, expressed satisfaction with the initiative. “We have reached the finish line. For the past seven days, we’ve been travelling from Tamale to Accra,” he said.

Acting Netherlands Ambassador, Wendy van Meel, highlighted the Netherlands’ strong cycling culture, encouraging more Ghanaians to adopt cycling as a daily activity.

Director General of the National Sports Authority, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, reaffirmed the NSA’s commitment to developing cycling through structured programmes and partnerships.

Ghana Cycling Federation Secretary General, Shaaban Mohammed, described the tour as transformative, while Gladiators Cycling Club President, Charles Hansen-Quao, praised participants for completing the challenging journey.

Cyclists were presented with medals and certificates at the closing ceremony.
