Curtis Jones appeared to be caught up in a furious discussion with his Liverpool team-mates moments after the Reds won their second pre-season match against Wrexham.

Andoni Iraola’s reign continued positively on Wednesday in New York after their opening win against Sunderland on Saturday, with teen talent Rio Ngumoha grabbing the second-half goal necessary to claim the win against Championship opposition.

But after the final whistle, Jones – who had featured as a second-half substitute from the 50th minute – seemingly took issue while speaking to Dominik Szoboszlai on the pitch.

Jones was captured in a fan’s video speaking expressively to the Hungary captain, who appeared to be attempting to cool his ire.

After Jones turned his back on Szoboszlai, he was immediately caught up in conversation with Kostas Tsimikas and Jeremie Frimpong, with the latter appearing to push Jones out of potentially stepping forward and starting another conflict.

The 25-year-old was eventually led away from the fray by Frimpong, but continued to seemingly make his case.

The academy graduate later vented his spleen in the direction of Jeremie Frimpong and Kostas Tsimikas

Academy graduate Jones is widely understood to be set to leave the club this summer, but Liverpool have been firm on their asking price for the midfielder.

Daily Mail Sport reported last week that Inter Milan had seen a second attempt to tempt Jones to Serie A rebuffed, with their £21.7million offer deemed too low.

Jones has only one season left on his contract, but the club would prefer to allow him to enter his final year than see him leave this summer for less than their preferred price of between £35m and £40m.

Towards the end of last season under former manager Arne Slot, Jones found himself increasingly frustrated as he missed out on places in the starting XI.

But Liverpool remain keen to stress that they do not wish to push their player – who has been at the club since boyhood – out of the door at Anfield.

At present however, there are no further talks planned for a new deal, with a chasm having opened up between the expectations of player and club.

One midfield academy graduate who enjoyed a brighter night at Yankee Stadium was Trey Nyoni, who played just 21 Premier League minutes last season, but caught the eye in the Bronx.
