An earthquake of magnitude 6.3 struck the island of Crete in Greece on Wednesday, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) said.
The quake was at a depth of 83 km (51.57 miles), GFZ said.
The US Geological Survey recorded a slightly lower quake, at 6.1 magnitude.
Generally, any earthquake above a 6.0 can cause damage if it hits a populated area.
According to Michigan Tech University, an estimated 100 earthquakes with a magnitude between 6.1 and 6.9 are recorded every year.
