Former Black Stars assistant coach George Boateng has been relieved of his coaching duties at English Championship side Coventry City.

Boateng’s departure follows the appointment of Chelsea legend Frank Lampard as the new head coach of the team.

Lampard has signed a two-year deal, replacing long-serving Mark Robins, who was sacked after seven years in charge.

George Boateng, who was part of Robins’ backroom staff, has left the club as a result of Robins’ dismissal.

In a statement released on Thursday, November 28, 2024, the club bid farewell to their former player:

“We would all like to thank George for his contribution to the Sky Blues since his return to the club in the summer.

George was a popular figure, adding to his 57-game and seven-goal playing spell at the club during the 1990s. We all wish George the best of luck for the future.”

During his time at Coventry, George Boateng, alongside Mark Robins, steered the team to 17 points, leaving them just two points above the relegation zone.
