Nigerian magistrate’s court in Ikorodu has ordered DNA testing for Liam, the son of the late Nigerian singer Mohbad, in response to a paternity dispute raised by the artiste’s father, Joseph Aloba.

Mohbad’s family has been embroiled in a number of controversies since Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, including disputes over his properties and the autopsy that was done on his remains.

Mohbad’s father has claimed that his son expressed doubts about Liam’s paternity before he died. He has repeatedly called on Mohbad’s widow, Wunmi, to submit the child for a DNA test.

According to Channels TV, on September 2, 2025, Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga granted an application filed by Mohbad’s father, directing that DNA tests be carried out on Liam.

The court ordered that one test should be conducted in an accredited hospital in Nigeria and the other in a recognised facility abroad.

Magistrate Sonuga also ruled that either Mohbad’s father, the child’s mother Wunmi, or their representatives must be present during the collection of samples.

The case has been adjourned until November 11, 2025.

In the application, Aloba requested that samples be taken from Mohbad’s remains at the Military Hospital in Yaba to assist with the tests.

He also asked that the tests could be done either within Lagos or outside the country, noting that he was willing to bear the cost if necessary.

He argued that the uncertainty surrounding Liam’s paternity must be resolved to ensure clarity on the child’s welfare and maintenance.
