Reverend Daniel Yaw Donkoh has been charged with allegedly spreading false news after claiming in a prophecy that Ghanaian musician Shatta Wale would be assassinated.
According to the police, Reverend Donkoh posted a video on TikTok on July 22, 2025, claiming that he had a spiritual vision.
In the vision, he said a group of armed men were planning to assassinate Shatta Wale. He claimed that the musician narrowly escaped the first attack and later posted online to thank God for saving his life.
But the pastor went on to say that three different men later showed up and shot Shatta Wale dead in that same vision.
The prosecution told the court that the musician and his management have been living in fear and have suffered emotional distress since the prophecy went viral.
On July 28, 2025, Reverend Donkoh appeared before the Dansoman Circuit Court, where he was charged with one count of publishing false news. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The court granted him bail in the amount of GH¢20,000. He is required to provide three sureties, one of whom must be able to prove they can cover the amount if needed.
The pastor was also ordered to report to the police every two weeks.
The case has been adjourned and will return to court on August 27, 2025.
