The Attorney General, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has revealed that the state has frozen assets belonging to Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, including a GH₵50 million account linked to his insurance company.
“We have also frozen the assets of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, including a GH₵50 million account belonging to his insurance company,” Dr Ayine said during a media briefing in Accra on Monday, December 22.
The announcement comes as the state moves to prosecute Wontumi Farms Limited and its directors for defrauding the state, forging documents, and causing financial loss totaling GH₵24,255,735.
Dr Ayine explained, “In the circumstances, and in the face of the evidence we have gathered in this investigation thoroughly conducted by the Economic and Organized Crimes Office, we have made the decision to prosecute Wontumi Farms and its directors with defrauding by false pretences, forgery and causing financial loss to the state in sum of Ghs24,255,735.”
The legal action follows EOCO investigations into alleged fraudulent loan transactions between Wontumi Farms and Ghana Exim Bank under the Mining Alternative Livelihoods Initiative.
