The High Court (Commercial Division) in Accra has authorised substituted service of a foreign court judgment against businessman Nana Kwame Bediako, also known as Cheddar, after enforcing a ruling that leaves him owing more than US$16 million in debt, interest, and costs.

The enforcement follows a judgment originally delivered by the High Court of England and Wales in favour of Cola Holdings Limited, a United Kingdom-based company.

A public notice published in the Daily Graphic on January 22, 2026, confirmed that the English judgment was registered in Ghana on May 20, 2025, thereby granting it full legal effect under Ghanaian jurisdiction.

The ruling was issued on January 23, 2025, by Deputy Master Sabic KC, with subsequent amendments in March and April of the same year. Once registered, the judgment became executable as though it had been delivered by a Ghanaian court.

Under the order, Nana Kwame Bediako is required to pay US$14,928,314.70 as the principal judgment debt.

The court further imposed interest at a rate of eight percent per annum, retroactive from January 23, 2025, until the entire amount is paid. By December 23, 2025, accumulated interest had already reached US$1,092,834.64, pushing the total liability well beyond the initial judgment sum.

The court also awarded GH₵15,000 in legal costs to Cola Holdings Limited.

At the prevailing Treasury exchange rate of GH₵16.15 per dollar, the combined amount translates to roughly GH₵258.76 million, with the final figure expected to rise as interest continues to accrue.

Due to challenges surrounding personal service, the court granted permission for substituted service, ordering that the judgment be served by posting notices at Mr. Bediako’s Osu residence, at the High Court notice board, and through a one-time publication in the Daily Graphic.

The notices are required to remain publicly displayed for seven days, marking a significant escalation in the enforcement process.
