A couple hit with a $6,000 fine after thieves stole their family car have blasted police for their lack of action.
Gold Coast couple Leila and Hamid had their car taken by masked thieves who broke into their home earlier this year.
Not long after, they received a $6,258 fine after one of the thieves was captured driving without a seatbelt by a traffic camera.
‘They already had Leila’s car key when they tried to come into the bedroom to get the keys to the other cars,’ Hamid told Today.
‘On the way they took other random things like a vacuum, gym bag, some shoes and I think they bumped the door when they were going through the bedroom.’
Hamid was woken up by the noise and went to investigate before they fled.
As he was calling the police and protecting his family, the thieves struck again, leaving the couple and their children distraught.
‘They came back with no fear and just took the car, finished the job,’ Hamid said.

He said Queensland Police had still not come to their house to investigate the crime.
‘It’s been about three weeks and the police still haven’t arrived,’ he said.
‘And unfortunately, we’ve now received an infringement that Mr Bad Guy wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.’
Leila and Hamid’s two young children have been distraught since the break-in.
‘My four-year-old, she doesn’t really understand what happened, asking “Mummy, was it monsters coming into our house?”, but the seven-year-old was really affected by it,’ their mother said.
‘I’ve been to the psychologist twice with her, trying to stop this from turning into PTSD for her. When it’s nightfall, she won’t go to her room and she just sticks to Hamid and I and asks “What if the bad guys come back?”
Leila said her daughter had asked if the thieves were coming back.
‘She was standing next to me so she witnessed everything and that whole day I tried to calm her down and tell her the police will come,’ Leila said.

Hamid said he has spoken with a detective on the phone, who he claims told him break-ins on Gold Coast’s glitter strip are ‘only going to get worse’.
‘They have cameras all along the highways on the Gold Coast ,’ he said.
‘How is it the cameras can get us with a fine, but they can’t capture the rego and stop the thieves driving the car?’
Daily Mail has contacted Queensland Police for comment.
