Talent manager and entertainment pundit, Kwesi Ernest, has questioned the relevance of the Copyright Society of Ghana, saying the institution has lost focus and is no longer fulfilling the purpose for which it was created.

Speaking during a discussion on Onua TV, on July 17, 2025, Kwesi Ernest criticised the society’s apparent failure to tackle piracy.

He mentioned that even though the COSGA office is located just a few metres from where music piracy openly takes place, the officials working there do nothing to stop it.

“The Copyright Society of Ghana is located just a few meters away from where many people engage in music piracy. What is even more concerning is that the officials responsible for protecting the copyright of musicians drive past without taking any action. Why does this office still exist? It seems they have lost their mandate, and it is crucial for the government of Ghana, and the Attorney General, to review the operations of the Copyright Society of Ghana,” Kwesi Ernest stated.

According to him, the inaction of the Copyright Society is disappointing and also a setback for musicians who rely on the body for protection and support.

Kwesi Ernest also stressed the absence of any visible task force from the society to clamp down on piracy.

He said the system that was supposed to protect musicians has collapsed, leaving artistes to fight piracy alone without institutional support.

“Where is their task force? This unit should be active in arresting all those involved in piracy. What has become of that office? Musicians are left to fend for themselves, with no one to protect their rights,” he said.
