The Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, Lydia Yaako Donkor, has provided an update on the ongoing investigation into the death of football supporter Francis Yaw Frimpong.

Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley, was fatally stabbed during a Ghana Premier League match between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC. The incident occurred during the fixture, sending shockwaves across Ghana’s football community and raising fresh concerns about safety at match venues.

Speaking on the matter, COP Donkor confirmed that investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify all persons involved. She assured the public that the police are working diligently to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

The tragic death of the supporter has sparked widespread condemnation from football stakeholders, supporters’ groups and administrators, with many calling for stronger security measures at Ghana Premier League matches.

Authorities say further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
