A senior constable has been found dead inside a police station in Sydney’s CBD.

Shocked colleagues found the officer’s body at Sydney Police Centre in Surry Hills early Monday morning.

The death of the officer, which has been called ‘a very sad day’ for NSW Police, is not being treated as suspicious.

‘Early this morning, a 52-year-old Senior Constable was found deceased at the Sydney Police Centre at Goulburn Street,’ a police statement read.

‘Initial inquiries indicate the man’s death is not suspicious and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

‘A critical incident investigation is underway.’

NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb attended the station on Monday to console the officer’s shattered colleagues.

‘Our hearts go out to the officer’s family,’ she said.

‘Every support will be made available for staff and family impacted by this tragedy.’

The latest tragedy comes two-and-a-half-years after a top homicide detective was found dead at a station in Sydney’s west.

Detective Sergeant Adam Child was dead from a gunshot wound inside at Ermington police station in August 2022.
