Veteran Nigerian comedian, Ali Baba, has sparked conversation online after publicly declaring his support for polygamy.

He stated that the practice can promote discipline and order within marriages.

The renowned entertainer, in a recent interview, argued that polygamy, often criticized in modern discourse, holds practical benefits rooted in cultural traditions.

According to Ali Baba, some men find that having multiple wives helps them better manage their homes.

“Some people believe that if you have only one wife, you may not be able to control her, but if the wife knows you have more than one, she’ll calm down because she knows that if she misbehaves, another person will take her place.” He said.

The comedian also referenced traditional African societies, noting that polygamy was not only accepted but sometimes actively supported by women.

In certain cases, wives would even help their husbands take additional wives to avoid the stigma of extramarital affairs.

Ali Baba further highlighted that in the past, it was customary for a deceased man’s brother to marry his widow, ensuring the welfare of both the woman and her children.

While acknowledging the shift in societal values, the comedian maintained that polygamy remains a culturally grounded and functional marital system.

He concluded by saying, “It may not be fashionable today, but I personally believe in it.”

His remarks have generated mixed reactions online, while some agreed with his stance, others criticized the views as outdated.

Below are some of the comments;

The idea that women behave better out of fear of another wife is outdated. True discipline in marriage comes from mutual respect, not intimidation!

“Can we men also allow women to do the same since it helps maintain marital discipline?”

“I’ve never seen a disciplined polygamous man. He’s always hunting for the next one.”

“In 2025? Men who think like this, I always pray they meet their match in women. Aura for aura.”
