Kenyan Premier League giants Gor Mahia head coach Charles Akonnor was crowned the SportPesa League Coach of the Month for October 2025, winning the award for the first time.

During the aforementioned month, the Ghanaian coach guided the record Kenyan champions to victory in all three of their matches against KCB, Posta Rangers and Mathare United. Gor Mahia started the month with a 1-0 win against KCB, floored Posta Rangers 3-0, before defeating Mathare United 2-0.

The Gor Mahia coach clinched the award after beating Tusker’s Charles Okere, AFC Leopards’ Fred Ambani, and Patrick Odhiambo from Kakamega Homeboyz.

Speaking after receiving the ward, Akonnor said: “First, God comes before everything. Three or four months ago, I didn’t know what to expect. We lost our first match, but we’ve picked up very well.

“Our fans win the match before it even starts, they come in numbers, and the numbers are increasing. I’m grateful to my technical team, the stewards, management, and especially the players.”

Meanwhile, Gor Mahia winger Shariff Musa won the Player of the month. The awards, reintroduced by league sponsors for the first time since 2018, aim to recognise outstanding performers while increasing fan engagement and improving competitiveness across the top flight.

Musa was declared the winner after beating AFC Leopards defender Vincent Mahiga and teammates Enock Morrison and Michael Kibwage in the final vote.

According to a statement from FKF, the winger received 150 votes from fans and was presented with a customised SportPesa League trophy along with a cash prize of Sh50, 000.
